The Captains Golf Course 18-Hole Women's Association
Handicaps
Association members must have a USGA handicap maintained at The Captains. The handicap season started April 1, 2010.
The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to enable golfers of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis. Players should try their best on every hole in every round & and post the score!
POST ALL SCORES: The handicap formula selects your 10 best rounds out of the last 20; a few bad rounds have little impact on your handicap. You really only play to your handicap 25% of the time!
SNOWBIRDS - POST WINTER SCORES: When you return to The Captains, you must post all scores* made in locations where the handicap season is active . If you are using the same GHIN number down south as you use at Captains, the scores will carry over.
*You only need to post the last 20 scores.
PARTIAL ROUNDS: If you complete 13 or more holes - post an 18-hole score. If you complete at least 7 holes - post a 9-hole score. For the holes you don't complete, post par plus any handicap strokes you would have had on those holes.
WHAT IF I PICK UP AND DON'T COMPLETE A HOLE? : If you're out of a hole and pick up (or concede the hole in match play), post the score you most likely would have made, not to exceed your Equitable Stroke Control maximum.
EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL: The maximum score you can take on a hole FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES ONLY. This is based on your course handicap (not your index). It can change depending on your handicap and the course you are playing. See the USGA website for more information: USGA Handicap Manual
